SNOWMASS FACT SHEET - 10/17/2001

LOCATION

In western Colorado in the heart of the Elk Mountain range, 220 miles west of Denver and 10 miles from Aspen.

CLIMATE

Summer daytime temperatures range from 65-85 degrees in the village with cooler temperatures at higher elevations. Nighttime temperatures drop to 50 degrees and lower. High altitude means dry air and low humidity. Annual snowfall is 300 inches. Winter daytime temperatures can be surprisingly mild, averaging 30-55 degrees. Nighttime temperatures average 10-30 degrees. Both summer and winter days are generally clear and sunny.

ACCOMMODATIONS

95% of Snowmass guestrooms are ski in/ski out. A wide variety of accommodations are available from luxury 5-bedroom private homes to economy lodge rooms. 6 hotels, 21 condominium properties and a host of private homes combine to offer 1,603 total guestrooms. HISTORY

In 1965, the US Forest Service granted William Jans, a former ski racer, pilot, art collector and land developer, the go-ahead for development of a new ski area near Aspen. On December 17, 1967, Snowmass-at-Aspen officially opened with 5 lodges, 120 condominium units, a dozen homes, 21 shops and 6 restaurants.

RESTAURANTS

32 restaurants and cafes offering everything from wild game to pizza by the slice. A wide variety of inexpensive cafes, delis, and sandwich outlets are available.

SHOPS

25 retail shops selling apparel, equipment, clothing, toys, art and souvenirs.

LOCAL TRANSPORTATION

Snowmass Resort Village provides convenient and complimentary shuttle service throughout the village. Buses depart from the shuttle terminal located just below the Village Mall on Daly Lane. Roaring Fork Transit Agency (RFTA) provides bus service year-round to Aspen and other points in the area. Snowmass’s free skier shuttle service also is available to all points in the resort.

SUMMER ACTIVITIES

Hiking, biking, fly-fishing, white water rafting, golf, tennis, horseback riding, jeep excursions, hot air balloon rides, chair lift rides, musical concerts, outdoor festivals.

WINTER ACTIVITIES

Skiing, snow boarding, cross-country skiing, tubing, snow-shoeing, sledding, dogsled rides, snow-mobiling, back country hut tours.
